Thanks

Thank you for all the kind comments and support. This has been much harder than I anticipated. And everyone is really helping.

The Surgeon called last night with the final pathology report. Confirmed Osteosarcoma. Grade 2. So the medium grade. We talked a lot about Sawyer’s yelping and twitching. Then he said “sounds like PLP” and I was almost like “hey, you said dogs don’t get PLP.” But maybe I misunderstood him the first time. We’ll be increasing Sawyer’s Tramadol and Gabapentin at least until the post-op next week.

Sawyer had a pretty good night. No yelping. And he ate 3 full meals yesterday which is first since surgery. Apparently, he really likes yogurt.

  1. THREE MEALS??? YAY FOR SAWYER!! 🙂 A HUGE IMPROVEMENT!! 🙂 🙂

AND A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP TOO???? YAY! 🙂
Keep notes on how the pain meds are working. He may be more lethargic, so that’s “normal” with increased meds sometimes. He looks a little druggy in his photos, but comfortable!

And his incision looks really good!

Hang in there! You’re doing great. Sawyer IS making progress at his own pace. He knows he needs to take things slowly.

    Hugs
Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

  2. Sweet Sawyer looks pretty comfortable in this pic and his incision looks good. Yes Sally has great advice, keeping notes on pain meds for Otis has helped a lot. Thinking of you all and hopeful there is no more yelping. A good appetite is a blessing!

  3. YAY! I am so glad to hear from you. I posted on your last post not realizing this was yours also. Sometimes the blogs are harder to follow than the forums. Yes phantom limb pain pawsitively exists and thank goodness your doc knows that. I had to talk mine into it, she is young and inexperienced at amputations. I had to fight tooth and nail to keep Huckleberry comfortable. So good to see that tweaking the meds made a good nights sleep and a healthy appetite. You are on a better part of the rollercoaster now, lol.. hang in there. It will get better! Once he is healed, sutures/staples are out, incision heals, you will see a huge turnaround. For now, little blessings and baby steps forward are all CELEBRATIONS!
    Hugs,
    Jackie and Huckleberry
P.S. You and the little one better be sneaking in those naps and relaxation moments..

  4. Awww what a sweetheart. I hope things were better for all of you today. Hang in there, things will start looking up soon and in no time at all you’ll wonder why you were so worried.

I’m super glad to hear your vet is on board with PLP! The medication adjustment should help a lot. Keep us posted.
